Course they might have been selling wedding saris or they were trying to upsell to the tourists.
More the former, but definitely part of the latter. These were actually very high quality. They were Mysore silk saris, which are evidently well known. It was high quality silk too; I felt it, and it was dreamy. It was woven to have beautiful colors (as in, the pattern was woven in rather than screened on later), and they had beautiful beadwork and jewels. All in all, they probably weren't gouging the tourists terribly much; it's just that they refused to show me anything but stuff that was more than I wanted.
